Italy has more than 800 varieties of grapes - most of which are unfamiliar to the American palate. VIA would like to change that. With wines from Barolos to Barbarescos, Dolcettos to Amarones, there's a lot more than the typical Chianti.

The wine list is focused on a selection of 70 Italian wines, some of which will be available by the glass*.

To develop the best possible wine list, Robb and Madeleine Ahlquist researched Italian wine and visited wineries throughout the country. The wine list they compiled represents the best wines from those personally tested by the Ahlquists.

The wines include a special house brand, Villadoro, that will be specially bottled for VIA. House wines typically are not of the highest quality, but that's not the case with Villadoro, a Montepulciano blend that's light, smooth and rich in flavor. Villadoro is of the highest quality, but not the highest price.

At VIA, as in Italy, wine is treated as an essential part of the meal.

This emphasis on wine is in keeping with the Ahlquists' treatment of wine at the other restaurants in the Worcester Restaurant Group. Both One Eleven Chop House and The Sole Proprietor have been perennial selections for the Wine Spectator's "Award of Excellence."

The goal for VIA is to also present diners with an award-winning wine list.
